The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level eligibility examination conducted in India to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in schools. The examination is organized by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of the Government of India.
CTET was introduced under the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which mandates that teachers appointed in Classes I to VIII must possess minimum professional qualifications. CTET is one of the mechanisms created to ensure that teachers entering the education system meet a basic national standard.
