Entrance Exam Subjects and Syllabus
To get into IITs for undergraduate programs, you go through JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) – JEE Main (qualifier) and JEE Advanced (for IIT seats). Only three subjects are tested: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM only).Physics – Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics, Modern Physics (high weight: Mechanics ~25-30%, Electricity/Magnetism ~20%).Chemistry – Physical (Thermodynamics, Equilibrium), Inorganic (Periodic Table, Coordination Compounds), Organic (Reactions, Hydrocarbons, Biomolecules) – balanced across parts.Mathematics – Calculus (biggest chunk ~30-35%), Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Vectors, Probability.Everything is NCERT Class 11-12 based. Master NCERT deeply, then practice advanced problems— that’s the winning formula.
